I seen Robin Roberts the ABC morning news woman has breast cancer. 46 never been married I read a piece awhile back that they thought she was gay. Always liked her nice looking Black Lady did alot for the people after Katrina in her home town. Hope she comes out OK and anyone else that has cancer here on this site that is battling it. It is funny how they teamed her next to Sawyer the Blonde Southern Belle. I know alot of people find these newswomen attractive but no one has ever mention her.

Yeah i wish her well. Hope she comes out of it ok.

She's gay. Not trying to be funny. If you watch that Ellen DeGeneres HBO special from a couple of years ago, she is seen in the audience hugging up with another woman.

Thats what I read about her she is and one that has kept it under wraps for along time if she is in fact gay. After all 46 and never married.

So what did you do create a thread just point out she was gay? I think some of you are missing the point that she has cancer. I thought that's why you made this thread. Make up you're mind.

No not at all I was just responding to the prior post. It makes no difference if she is or isn't I wish her well. Cancer is a hard thing to live with in a family. Was down that road with my own BALKIS like I said I started the thread about her cancer.

My mom had breast cancer so it's not something nice to look forward to that possibility.

I seen Patricia that alot less women are getting the mammography done due to insurance and the lack of places to test as the insurance isn't paying enough to keep it going. I hope this isn't the case because it can be a horrible experience for the person and it also affects the family. Hope your mother is doing fine. Muleman

I met Ms Roberts a couple of times when i lived in N.O.
Great lady who did a lot for the community, even prior to Katrina. I wish her the best of luck with her treatment. If caught early enough, great chance she will become another survivor of this dreaded disease. Byb the way Muleman, thanks for the thread.

Thanks for the kind thoughts, Muleman. My mom is doing well and I can get mammographies where I live and my husband has good insurance. I'm pretty lucky there. Thanks.

Thank God for the UK National Health Service. It may be crap at times but it does the job, and its "free"

There are some things my friend that we American people could learn from outside the waters. The trouble here is too much money being made by Health Ins Companys and they like to keep and build and invest but don't like to pay. My health Ins cost me right under $400.00 a month it is costly so there are alot of people that can't afford it so alot of people get sick and need Meds and can't get them. I would just as soon put up with the crap at times as pay $4,800.00 a year for ins. there has to be a better way for us.

I'm glad to hear your mother is doing fine. Now you make sure you get checked once a year as Breast cancer seems to run in familys. You seem like a wonderful lady so you keep up on these test. If ever in the midwest give me a yell if would be a honor to meet you. Take care Muleman

I understand Muleman but I dont understand why the US are so scared of something like the NHS. Everyone pays - the employee pays a percentage of their wages, the emploer also pays just over 12% of everyones wages. In total, around 23% (average) of everyones money goes to the NHS. This is on top of the tax we pay.

We get everything free, and medication is by prescription which is a set, standard price, no matter what it is. It also pays for a (very small) pension. We can still pay and go private and some people still have insurance to pay for this. We may not like paying it but when you see your loved ones going through the agonies of life, it is comforting to know that you havent got to worry about footing the bill. It is not perfect by any means, but it is good

That sort of money in the US is serious stuff and the government could use it. I just wish politics was easy

I have always wanted universal health care for all Americans. If Canada can manage it there's no reason we aren't able to if and when we ever get some fiscal responsibility in the White House (regardless of party). Ohio is taking small steps toward that as our newly elected governor has signed legislation to ensure state-wide health care for all children (proud to say I know him as a personal friend).

I also know first-hand the affects of cancer on a family. My mother is an ovarian cancer survivor (22 pound tumor which was, at the time, the 2nd largest in US medical history) and my Father, his Dad and two uncles all died with esophogeal cancer. They thought I had it recently but luckily the biopsy showed no cancer just agitation and I merely had to have my esophogus stretched.

now it is official. most of the people here are morons. we have the BEST health care system in the world. more than 93% of new pharmeceuticals for heart, cancer, diabetes, liver, pulmonary and AIDS related diseases originate in the U.S. People who have the money and have ANY significant disease and live in Canada come here routinely for medical care, gladly paying a lot of money, because in Canada you can wait MONTHS for non life threatening surgery, and often weeks to a couple of months for life threatening problems. There is no nationalized health system in the world that provides even a shadow of the quality of health care we enjoy in the U.S. And as to it being
"free" in places like Canada and the UK...you people are brain dead. Tax rates in those countries are astronomical. It's only "free" for those who have no income to start with. For those who go out and work everyday and earn a living, it is pathetically expensive. Why do you think all the British rock stars and actors try to establish residence in the U.S.? Why do you think we are flooded by millionaires from Europe, Asia and Latin America? It's because we don't penalize people for being innovative and successful. And by the way, by attracting these people, we also attract their capital, talents, ideas and hard work. Just like the states in the U.S. with the LOWEST business tax rates also have the HIGHEST growth rates, and the HIGEST wage standards. We need, and have, a "safety net" for people in need. What we don't need is national health care and socialized medicine, which insures that EVERYONE will get the same substandard medical care, at higher prices, that 95% of our population now enjoys at much lower prices....and insures that 90% of the medical innovations we now see will be squashed under the weight of a socialist bureacracy and a system that penalizes success and reward indolence.

Substandard care beats no medical care. But our priorities as a nation are so fucked up we help everyone but our own. Yes, a good many of the people here are morons. And we just added another to a growing list.

I was accepting of your point of view until you called me brain dead, but I will move on.

Unfortunately I can't see where you are from so I don't know if you have ever experienced the health care we have in the UK or if you have experienced Canadian Health Care. I have experienced US care and still smart at the "do you have insurance?" questions that seemed to be more important than the pain my child was in.

I suppose its a point of view - Do you moan about all the tax or do you accept that it is all for the common good.? One point to understand is that Tax and National Insurance are two different things - (although both a tax). Some people go to the US for tax reasons - they can afford the health care so don't much care - but they will rarely go for the health service

Another point is that some people "with money" go private because they can - not because they get a better level of care- it's a snobbish thing for some. Almost every top NHS practitioner also does private work - The surroundings might be nicer and plusher but the knowledge of the expert remains the same but hey - if you want to pay extra for a nice mug of latte and a chocolate mint instead of a paper cup of instant coffee, be my guest - but the care you get will be the same.
