You are partially correct. Although we call ourselves a republic, we have become very socialistic. Anything that takes from one and gives to another or requires you to pay for the needs, desires, wants of another is socialism, (e.g. social security, social services, income credit on the tax return, laddered tax brackets) Of course there are some who think we are a democracy, even in the nation's capitol.

It's amazing how many people are willing to sacrifice their (Note: notice again for everyone the difference between "their" and "there".) freedom for a promised, but never delivered, free ride.
